Most often, you might find smithing stones through exploration.
Regular stones are more common, but upgrading each weapon requires using several at once.
Somber are more difficult to find, but only one is needed for each upgrade.

Some smithing stones are available from certain merchants in very limited quantities.
This unlocks an endless supply of stones at a specific level, enabling you to buy them as required.
