This guide page contains the most important information about the combat inMonster Hunter Rise.

InMH Rise, you’re able to fight monsters in a variety of ways.

From simple sword-waving to complex tactics.

Basic information

When you start hunting, you will see icons of large monsters on the minimap.

The question mark is for a monster you haven’t fought before.

You will also find monster thumbnails in the upper right corner of the screen.

PC

When you get close to a large monster, it can immediately attack you.

Some monsters will remain non-aggressive until they are attacked.

Each punch in of weapon has unique combos.

PC

You will find them in Hunter’s Notes.

With your weapon drawn, you might attack enemies with Wirebugs.

When you sheath your weapon, the Wirebugs will help you move away from the monster or avoid damage.

PC

Attack a monster enough times with a Wirebug to be able to mount it.

This monster will run away from the battlefield to rest and regenerate health.

PC

Weakened monsters will also be easy to capture.

When you hit a monster’s weak point, the damage numbers will be orange.

PC

Purple numbers indicate that a given body part is resistant to attacks.

When fighting Arzuros, the best tactic is to attack its back with a blunt- or sever-jot down weapon.

Similar effects will be obtained by inflicting damage with a ranged weapon to the upper half.

PlayStation

Using a weapon with an elemental will increase the damage.

Elemental attacks have immediate results, negative effects can be applied only after dealing enough damage.

Each monster has different immunity thresholds for such effects.

Xbox

Negative effects can also be inflicted by the local life forms living in the hunting areas.

Below you will find an explanation of each negative effect:

Poison- poisoned monsters will slowly take damage.

The amount of damage depends on the monster’s resistance to this effect.

Nintendo

Paralysis- paralyzed monsters won’t be able to move, allowing you to safely deal damage.

Sleep- a sleeping monster falls to the ground and sleeps for a while.

Sleeping monster takes more damage from your attacks.

Monster Hunter: Rise

Blast- the amount of damage from the blast depends on the monster’s resistance to this effect.

Exhaust- this effect will immediately deprive the monster of its strength.

Fireblight- a monster infected with this effect will receive fire damage for a period of time.

Waterblight- this effect will soften the monster’s skin, making it more vulnerable to regular weapon damage.

Thunderblight- this effect will temporarily render the monster immune to being stunned by any weapon.

The best way to stun a monster inflicted with Thunderblight is to attack its head.

Iceblight- the movements of the monster become slow, making it an easier target.

This is a good way to deal with a very fast and aggressive opponent.

Hunter’s status

Monsters also have special attacks that can cause negative effects.

Eating a Nulberry or performing a few rolls (B and left analog) will nullify this effect.

Rolling in water will give the best results.

Waterblight- reduces hunter’s speed of stamina regeneration.

Eating Nulberry, performing a few rolls (B and left analog) or Wiredash will nullify the effect.

Thunderblight- makes the hunter more prone to stun.

Eating Nulberry, performing a few rolls (B and left analog) or Wiredash will nullify the effect.

Iceblight- reduces the speed of Wirebugs' regeneration.

Eating Nulberry, performing a few rolls (B and left analog) or Wiredash will nullify the effect.

Dragonblight- eliminates damage from the elements and other harmful effects of your weapons.

Eating Nulberry, performing a few rolls (B and left analog) or Wiredash will nullify the effect.

Using deodorant, performing a few rolls (B and left analog) or Wiredash will nullify the effect.

Poison- slowly reduces the hunter’s health for a limited time.

Eating an antidote or herbal medicine will negate the effect.

Stun- makes you impossible to move for a limited time.

Rotating the left analog or taking damage from the monster will negate the effect.

Paralysis- an immobilized hunter takes more damage from attacks.

Rotating the left analog will nullify this effect.

Sleep- puts the hunter into sleep, which makes it impossible to move and exposes you to potential damage.

Drinking an energy drink before you fall asleep will nullify this effect.

Taking damage from an attack during sleep will awaken the hunter.

Defense down- you take more damage from attacks.

Eating an adamant seed or an armorskin will negate the effect.

Resistance down- reduces resistance to all elements for a limited time.

Eating a Nulberry will nullify this effect.

Stench- prevents the use of items that restore health and strength for a limited time.

The use of deodorant will negate this effect.

Bubble- bubbles start growing on the hunter’s body.

If the bubbles become too large, your character will lose its mobility.

Use a cleanser to negate this effect.

Webbed- makes the hunter unable to attack or evade for some time.

Use a cleanser to negate this effect.

Leeched- slowly sucks the health out of the hunter.
